Verdict: If you’re looking for something ground breaking or original, this game probably doesn’t make the cut. It’s not the greatest, but at least, it’s consistent (where it tries) and has a slightly more coherent plot than some other games. There are some gaping plot holes and major head scratches, but I feel this game is still passable. It’s a neat feature and allows for some interesting variations. The story itself moves in a nonlinear direction, meaning there is not only one “route” to complete the same events. At times, the plot creates huge twists that, while surprising, were not completely unexpected. However, I enjoyed watching the story unfold, as I do think the makers earnestly tried their best to create a game that somewhat stood out. Pretty generic ‘save the world’ story trope. Along the way, Lloyd finds out more than he bargains for and has to decide what to do. Along the way, Lloyd and his group encounter organizations that want to stop, and even kill, Colette to prevent her from completing the journey of world regeneration. On one fateful day, Colette is to become the Chosen One and must receive the oracle to carry out her duty to save Sylvarant, their dying world. The story starts out in the small town of Iselia where our main protagonist, Lloyd Irving, goes to school with his two pals, Genis and Colette. The English voice belongs to Kratos Aurion, one of the characters in the game. This prologue video begins when you first start a new game and explains the premise of the game.
